SLR September 15 - C&O Canal Towpath

Hello Saturday Runners!

We'll be running out & back tomorrow morning on the C&O Canal Towpath (downloads: cue sheet and GPS), for a scheduled distance of 20 miles. Because this route is out & back, it's an easy one to modify for whatever distance you'd like to run, if your personal schedule is calling for something shorter (or longer!) this weekend. If you're going about 18 miles or longer on this route, there's a chance you'll run into some construction around Lock 10 on the Towpath, but if this happens just follow signs for the detour and you should be back on your way soon.

Thank you Ryan Moore for post-run drinks, and Grace Kirkpatrick for mid-run drinks! Mid run beverages will be located on the C&O Towpath trail, at Lock 6, which is about 5.5 miles from the start.

We have beverages mostly covered for the next few weeks, but still need to fill in volunteers for both post-run and mid-run drinks on October 6, so please let me know if you can help out with this. The weekly schedule of volunteers, routes, and distances is always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to book your slot. For general info on how volunteering works see the SLR FAQ or send me an email if you have any other specific questions.

Next week on Saturday evening, September 22, we will be having our annual club picnic at the Landon School in Bethesda, with a 3 mile cross-country race beforehand! Bring your family out for good food, good company, and one of the few chances each year to run an open cross-country race. Please register online in advance, even if you do not plan on running and are only attending for the picnic, so that we can get a better estimate of headcount for food.

Coming up in 2 weeks, the club will be putting on the National Capital 20 Miler and 5 Miler races, on Sunday September 30! If you're training for a fall marathon, this race is a great way to test the waters beyond 13.1 miles, without going all-out for another full marathon. Registration and additional information is available here.

Happy running,

Mike
