SLR October 21 - National Capitol

Hello Saturday Runners!

Happy MCM weekend! For those of you targeting a later race, or just looking for a run on Saturday morning, our route will be National Capitol (downloads: cue sheet and GPS) for 12 miles. You can shorten this to 10 miles by returning directly over Memorial Bridge before heading north to Rosslyn, or for extra distance you can tack on a lap or more at Roosevelt Island or the Tidal Basin (both about 1.25 miles), or go out & back on either the Rock Creek Park Trail or Mt. Vernon Trail.

Now that it's finally feeling like fall, the weather on Saturday morning should make for a great run in the 50s with some sun! I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but Raj will be filling in for me to introduce the run and get the group going at 8:00 am.

Thanks this week go to Brie Jackson for post-run drinks! I've now posted a route schedule that will take us all the way to the Rock n Roll marathon in the spring, through our winter training program, so please let me know when you can help out. Volunteer needs along with the weekly route & distance schedule are always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot. For more details on how volunteering works, please see the SLR FAQ, or get in touch with me if your questions are not addressed there. SLR drinks are entirely volunteer supported, so if you regularly enjoy this perk, do your part to keep it going!

MCM Info:

Good luck to everyone running the Marine Corps Marathon this weekend! It's time to reap the benefits of all your work over the summer - training is the hard part, and running the marathon is your reward! You should have a nice start to the morning too with temperature in the mid-50s, but warming up some as the day goes on, so be sure to make it to the finish line before then ;)

For all DCRRC members, MCM runners, their family and friends - We are partnering again this year with the Hope for the Warriors, our sponsor for the MCM Charity Village! Hope for Warriors provides comprehensive support programs for service members, veterans, and military families that are focused on transition, health and wellness, peer engagement, and connections to community resources. You can find the final information for this year's tent in charity village at this link.

Happy running,

Mike
