SLR August 5 - Piney Branch

Hello Saturday Runners!

This Saturday, on August 5, we will be running the Piney Branch route (downloads: cue sheet and gpx) for just under 12 miles. This route can be shortened to about 10 miles by going left off of 16th St. onto Columbia Rd and then across Rock Creek at Calvert, and descending onto the trail via Shoreham. An option to extend this route to 16 miles is to keep going on 16th St. all the way up to the first left after Military Rd, descending onto Beach Drive (and/or Ross Drive) via Joyce Rd. Either one of these modifications would cause you to miss the mid-run drink station this week though, so keep that in mind if you plan to follow either option. We should have some nicer weather coming our way this weekend with clear skies and dew point dropping into the 50s, but it's still summertime so keep on carrying your own fluids!

Thanks this week to Jerry McEnerney for post-run drinks, and Katie Poore for mid-run drinks! Mid-run drinks will be located on Piney Branch Pkwy, at the roadside parallel parking near the picnic area. We're now down to only two more slots that need to be filled for mid-run drinks this summer, so many thanks to all of our volunteers, and please get in touch with me if you're able to help out on either September 2 or September 9!

Volunteer needs along with the weekly route & distance schedule are always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot. Post-run volunteers are typically scheduled for at least 2 consecutive weeks to cut down on handoffs of the bins, while mid-run drinks can be booked on a week by week basis. SLR drinks are entirely volunteer supported, so if you regularly enjoy this perk, do your part to keep it going! Volunteering is easy, doesn't take a lot of time, and all restocking expenses will be reimbursed by the club.

Happy running!
