altWhen did you begin running and why?

I’ve been running off and on since 2013 when I signed up for my first half marathon, and I started running mainly because I am competitive and wanted tangible goal to work toward. But recently, my motivation for running has expanded to wanting to maintain my overall health and fitness and be part of community. This mind shift has made me enjoy running more than ever. I am now thekind of person who goes for a run as stress reliever, and I never thought that could be me.

How did you find out about DCRRC and when did you join?

Last summer I was browsing Reddit to see what local running clubs were in the DMV – DCRR was mentioned several times as being friendly and welcoming community. When I went to poke around your website, I saw there was half marathon training program starting the next weekend – based on my past history of trying and failing to stick to training plan when left to my own devices, I knew this was what I needed to hold myself accountable and signed up right then.

What are you training for right now?

I’m focused on maintaining mileage right now but will be closing out the spring season with half marathon in Maine and then will dive full force into training for this year’s Marine Corps Marathon – my first-ever marathon, which I’d always said I’d never, ever do. Tips, tricks, thoughts, and prayers all welcome.

What is the toughest run or race in which you have participated?

The Ocean Isle half marathon in North Carolina in 2016 – not because it was hard course (pretty sure there was NO elevation), but because I was woefully undertrained. On paper, I have run harder courses since, but nothing compares to the pain of running race you have not prepared for.

What is your favorite post-race meal?

cold draft beer and basically any carb (pizza, burger, bagel, fries – if it is beige and fried, put it on my plate).

What is your favorite running book and/or movie?

Not book or movie, but I’ve been very into The Running Channel podcast lately! It’s these three Brits – one former Olympian and the other two more average runners – so each episode feels like being part of casual chat with friends.
