Rae Bimmerle

raebimmerle>When did you begin running and why?

I started running in 2017, in Chicago, in February (do not recommend). A good friend of mine at work raved all the time about how great running was for managing stress and staying healthy. I’ll spare everyone the details on how miserable and cold that first 17+ minute mile was, but I stuck with it!

>How did you find out about DCRRC and when did you join?

I joined DCRRC as a pacer for the spring half marathon training program in January 2025. I had researched run clubs in the area and DCRRC seemed most welcoming and was willing to let me start a run/walk pace group in the training program!

>What are you training for right now?

Cherry Blossom, the Alexandria Half Marathon, and in May the Utrecht Half Marathon and Edinburgh 10k!

>What is the toughest run or race in which you have participated?

Grand Tetons Half Marathon. Hills are my nemesis, and I realized early on that I would be touristing, not racing, that course. Absolutely stunning though and highly recommend, but be ready for elevation and hills!

>What is your favorite post-race meal?

All the food. I am not even a little bit picky after a race.

>What is your favorite running book and/or movie?

I’m a big fan of Des Linden’s book, it’s incredible how far grit and hard work can take you.
