Kelly Fisher

kellyfisherHow did you find out about DCRRC and when did you join?

I had just recovered from an injury and I wanted to train for a ten miler. I did a little research and found out that DCRRC had a training program so I signed up with my husband. This was back when there was a training program in Pentagon Row.

What are you training for right now?

I’m training for fun! I do hope to run the NJ Half Marathon in April 2021 and then a full marathon in fall 2021.

What is the toughest run or race you've ever participated in?

Hands down the Key West Ragnar. I ran the ultra with a group of fellow DCRRC members. It was so hot and humid. I was also recovering from the worst cold. Two days after the race I ended up getting a nice ride from the airport to the hospital via an ambulance.

What is the most important lesson running has taught you?

No matter how bad things feel, just keep moving forward and you’ll get closer to the finish.

What is your favorite route in the area?

Hains Point! I love the people watching.

What race day traditions do you have?

I always get a last minute pre-race kiss from my husband.

What is your favorite post-race meal?

Trader Joe’s broccoli and cheese quiche with exactly two hash browns with hot sauce.

What is your proudest running moment?

Finishing Disney’s Inaugural Dopey Challenge. When I first started running, I didn’t think I could ever run a marathon let alone a 5k, 10k, half, and full in four back-to-back days.

What is your favorite running book?

Jeff Galloway’s Book on Running. His run-walk method helped me get over my initial running hesitations. I don’t run-walk anymore, but I still recommend this book for newbies.

What is your life like outside of running?

I live in DC with my husband, Joe, and 4 cats (Chickadee, Puffin, Hazel-rah, and Secretariat). When I’m not running or working, I’m usually reading Brandon Sanderson or some other fantasy author, gardening, or drawing. I started a new job at DC Water this past summer. Water is life!
