Training program for spring half-marathon races (e.g., United Airlines Rock 'n' Roll Washington DC)

The DC Road Runners Club (DCRRC) Spring Half-Marathon Training Program is your opportunity to successfully prepare for the United Airlines Rock 'n' Roll Washington DC half-marathon or another spring half-marathon of your choice. The Rock 'n' Roll race director has declared an in-person event for Saturday, March 26, 2022. The training program starts in December and convenes as a group every Saturday morning at Francis Scott Key Memorial Park, which is just across the street from the 34 ST NW & M ST NW intersection in Georgetown.

The half-marathon training plan begins on Sunday, December 26, 2021 and the first group long run will be held on Saturday, January 1, 2022. Normally, Saturday Long Run (SLR) will take place at 8:00 AM. However, that first Saturday is coincident with the DCRRC Predictions & Resolutions 5K race, so we will all participate in that event as our first "training" run. The Predictions & Resolutions 5K takes place at 12:00 PM on January 1st and you can read more about the event details at this link. Training runs will operate through Saturday, March 19, 2022.

The training program runs rain, snow, or shine with few exceptions. The program is open to any healthy adult (18+ years of age) at virtually any level of athletic ability. There is no speed requirement and all paces are welcome. We highly recommended that athletes should be running 9+ miles per week and able to complete a long run of at least 3 miles at the beginning of the training program.

You must be a member of DCRRC to participate in the half-marathon training program. If you are not currently a member, or need to renew an expired membership, you can complete the necessary steps here: Membership Information. The half-marathon training program is $25 for current DCRRC members in good standing. You must also select and register for a marathon on your own; we do not provide guaranteed or free entries. Training program members are also encouraged to participate in / volunteer at the Club's free races and events, which are included in your membership fee. We are all part of the DMV's running community and it's up to us to keep it inclusive and vibrant!

**Registration is open to those participants 18 years of age and older as of the start of the program.**

What's included in the training program?

Weather Policy: Safety is our number one priority. A race, run, or other event may be canceled, delayed, suspended or postponed, or the course may be modified in the event of threatening weather conditions that could make the run unsafe for participants. Such threatening weather conditions may include: lightning, heavy rains, wind/tornadoes, extreme heat, ice/snow, or other major weather conditions. Extreme heat is defined as a heat index that meets or exceeds 105 degrees Fahrenheit at the time of the event or run. Lightning strikes within one mile of the planned course are considered threatening. It is up to the race director or run leader to determine whether the conditions are threatening and communicate any decision to alter the event or run to participants.
