This group is intended for club members with several years of racing experience who want to take their running to the next level. Consistency, structure, and avoiding injury will be emphasized. Participation is free and open to those who can reasonably aim for the following times:

Marathon 3:05 3:15

Weekly Schedule

Each week will include two workouts and a quality long run. The exact schedule will depend on participants' goal races.

Monday

Meet above the Iwo Jima Memorial at 6:30 or near the Jefferson Memorial for a warmup, tempo run or hill repeats, and cooldown.

Wednesday

Meet at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington at 6:50pm, warmed up and ready for drills, strides, and stretching. We'll participate in the regularly-scheduled club workout (usually or fartlek) at 7:30pm.

Saturday

Meet at North Meade Street Park in Arlington for a long run (pace varies). Start time corresponds with the club Saturday Long Run.

HPT Monday Tempo May 12

Still doing the same thing as the last two weeks, but not to worry, next week we will do the first set of hill repeats.
But for tonight
Start at the Iwo Jima memorial at 6:30, warm up to the Jefferson Memorial (for people meeting us on the DC side, we will be at Jefferson around 6:55 meet us in front of the snack stand on the SW side of the memorial), and run tempo from there.
The plan for today is 17 Minutes tempo, which should get us from Jefferson to somewhere past Georgetown on the Rock Creek trail.
After tempo we will all gather back up at Virginia Ave and Rock Creek to jog back to VA.

Inaugural 2014 HTP tempo run

The time has come, let's do some tempo running!
As I pointed out two weeks ago, we will typically start at the Iwo Jima memorial at 6:30 on Monday nights, warm up to the Jefferson Memorial, and run tempo from there.
The plan for today is 15 Minutes tempo, which should get us from Jefferson to somewhere past Georgetown on the Rock Creek trail.
After tempo we will all gather back up at Virginia Ave and Rock Creek to jog back to VA.
For tonight we will go with Chipotle recovery right after the run.

HPT Tempo Workout 8/26

Hey guys, after last week's hill run extravaganza (leg destruction fest), we are back to tempo run this week.

Meet at on the sidewalk above the Iwo Jima Memorial (14th and N. Meade) at 6:30pm.

Warm-up:

4 Miles from Iwo to the bathrooms on the west side of Hains point, where we will make a quick water break.

Tempo:

32 Minutes at your 10 mile – half marathon pace.

Ohio drive, Jefferson memorial, Rock Creek park trail all the way to Georgetown.

Gather back up at the parking lot/stop lights at the intersection of VA ave and Rock Creek Parkway.

Cool-down:

Back to Iwo Jima via Key Bridge.

If you don't feel like coming to Iwo Jima for the start and finish, on Ohio drive beneath the 14th street bridge around 6:55.
