This group is intended for club members with several years of racing experience who want to take their running to the next level. Consistency, structure, and avoiding injury will be emphasized. Participation is free and open to those who can reasonably aim for the following times:

  Men Women
10 Mile 1:05 1:10
Half Marathon 1:28 1:35
Marathon 3:05 3:15

Weekly Schedule

Each week will include two workouts and a quality long run. The exact schedule will depend on participants' goal races.


Meet above the Iwo Jima Memorial at 6:30 or near the Jefferson Memorial for a warmup, tempo run or hill repeats, and cooldown.


Meet at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington at 6:50pm, warmed up and ready for drills, strides, and stretching. We'll participate in the regularly-scheduled club workout (usually or fartlek) at 7:30pm.


Meet at North Meade Street Park in Arlington for a long run (pace varies). Start time corresponds with the club Saturday Long Run.

July 21 HPT Tempo Run

Hey everyone sorry for the late email. I have been a little behind. 
It's actually going to be a nice evening out there tonight, at least in terms of dewpoint and relative humidity. So hopefully we will have a decent tempo run. 
We are up to 21 minutes tonight, which is the last of the short version. We will run around the buckeye cutoff counterclockwise, for this one, then we will move to the whole point starting next week. 
Bluemont 5K is this week and Anna still needs volunteers. you can register for both here. 



July 8 HPT Tempo Run

Great flood edition tempo run! actually, it should not be horrible by the time we start running. So, unless we see some other alerts we should be good to go for the run.

We are up to 18 minutes of tempo this evening, which means we are still only doing the buckeye cutoff. No need to worry about flooding on Hains Point.

In other news, the track meet is this weekend. Looks like we are going to have stellar elite fields as well as very competitive sub heats. Registrations are double what they were last year.

I hope that you all can make it down to run, and watch what will hopefully be the first sub 4 mile in DC.

July 1 HPT Hill Workout.

Hey everyone,

It's the first of the month, and it seems as though we are going to have a nice evening for the first hill workout of this training cycle. This is even more perfect because rumor has it that Kyle will be joining us this evening, and he loves the hills more than anyone.

The plan calls for 4 hills repeats, which should be a good taste but not a full dose of hill workout pain.

For those who usually join at the Jefferson Memorial, you will need to make your way over to Rosslyn for this.
