This group is intended for club members with several years of racing experience who want to take their running to the next level. Consistency, structure, and avoiding injury will be emphasized. Participation is free and open to those who can reasonably aim for the following times:

10 Mile 1:05 1:10
Half Marathon 1:28 1:35
Marathon 3:05 3:15

Weekly Schedule

Each week will include two workouts and a quality long run. The exact schedule will depend on participants' goal races.

Monday

Meet above the Iwo Jima Memorial or near the Jefferson Memorial for a warmup, tempo run or hill repeats, and cooldown.

Wednesday

Meet at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington at 6:50pm, warmed up and ready for drills, strides, and stretching. We'll participate in the regularly-scheduled club workout (usually or fartlek) at 7:30pm.

Saturday

Meet at North Meade Street Park in Arlington for a long run (pace varies). Start time corresponds with the club Saturday Long Run.

March 20 HPT Tempo run

Happy first day of spring all, let's go run and see some cherry blossoms!
 
Tonight's tempo run calls for 42 minutes worth of tempo, which is a lot, but just think of how good it is for you. 
 
For the most part the run will be the standard long tempo:
Start from Iwo Jima at 6:30
Warm-up to Jefferson Memorial along Mt. Vernon Trail
Start tempo from Jefferson at 6:55
Tempo counter clockwise around HP to Georgetown
Cool-down from Georgetown to Rosslyn

March 13 HPT tempo run

Happy pre end of the world Monday. 
 
So first things first, a few congrats are in order. 
 
Christie Wenzel WON the RnR marathon in 3:04
Rodrigo got his first BQ at RnR finishing just behind his wife in 3:04
Alex Albertini ran a 3 minute PR in the half in 1:24
 
Rochelle ran the Gate River Run (US 15K Champs) in 56:57
 
Congrats all!
 
 
Tonight's tempo run is one of the longest we will do all year, 39 minutes total. But thankfully it looks like we will get done just before the snow starts.

Feb 13 HPT Tempo run

Happy happy windy Monday everyone. To celebrate the wind, we are going to extend our tempo run all the way around the windiest place in DC, Hains Point. 
 
Tonight's tempo session calls for 30 minutes of running at tempo pace. 
 
Looking forward to seeing you all tonight with your skydiving face on.
