See http://www.pvtc.org/indoor.html for complete information.
3. SNOWBALL SERIES
The Snowball Series is a series of eight races, each of which counts toward series points. Points are awarded in 5-year age groups, beginning with 14 and under, and ending with 80 and over.
The rules are as follows:
1) Your age on the day of the first series race you run is your age for the entire series.
2) Points are awarded to the top twenty places in each age group. The first place runner in an age group receives 20 points, second place earns 19 points, etc.
3) You must be a DCRRC member on the day of the race to earn points for that race. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the victories in head-to-head competition. If there is still a tie, the time difference in those same head-to-head races will determine the winner.
4) One must run three races to qualify for an award. A runner's top five races will count in the total scoring for the series.
An awards ceremony is held in the spring and the top three finishers in each age group are presented an award.
There are FIVE races left in the 05-06 Snowball Series:
Sunday, January 16 at 8 a.m. JFK 5K, Hains Point, Washington, DC
Saturday, February 4th at 10 a.m. Custis 12K, Bluemont Park, Arlington
Saturday, February 25th at 9 a.m. Belle Haven 25K, Belle Haven Park, Alexandria

5. 10K TRAINING PROGRAM STARTS ON FEBRUAY 18th
Once again, the DC Road Runners Club is partnering with the Arlington YMCA for a 10K training program.
The program will begin Saturday, February 18th. It will last twelve weeks, with the goal race being the Arlington YMCA Mother’s Day 10K, a race which DCRRC co-sponsors with the YMCA. (Program participants may choose to run other 10Ks, of course, but the program fee includes a free entry in the Mother’s Day 10K on Sunday, May 14, 2006.)
The cost for the 10K Training Program is $40 for DCRRC members (non-members pay $52, as their fee includes a DCRRC membership). Runners will meet at the Arlington YMCA on Saturday, February 18th at 8 a.m. for orientation.
Groups will be formed based on runners’ experience, abilities and goals. All levels of ability will be accommodated. Participants should come to the first meeting prepared to go for a short run. Runners will have access to the locker room facilities each week, including showers, towels and sauna. Bagels and Gatorade will be provided each week, as well as high quality coaching advice.

From Haber Vision Sunglasses: You and your organization can take advantage of the 50% off promotion. Simply log on to habervision.com and enter the affinity code: JS4782H to receive the pro-pricing. Please pass this code to all members of your organization. (From Susan: I looked at the site. They LOOK cool. I know nothing beyond that. Just passing along the savings opportunity.)
From Rainmaker Publishing: Rainmaker Publishing recently released a national marathon book titled, From Fairbanks to Boston – 50 Great U.S. Marathons that is written by dozens of marathoners from across the county (of all ages and experiences). Our authors share personal accounts of their favorite marathons as well as logistical information about each race. This book also offers a bonus section on six ultra races and is selling very well in running stores, at marathon expos, online and in bookstores.
We offer running clubs a 10% discount to their members on this book (and on all our other books – we have two triathlon books coming out in 2006 as well as a book on the Appalachian Trail). They have set up a club discount code for the DC Road Runners. It is: DCR00. This code can be used immediately by all club members for a 10% discount. Books can be ordered online at www.rainmakerpublishing.com, by mail or fax (we have a downloadable form online) or over the telephone at 703-385-2088. Information on the book can be found at www.rainmakerpublishing.com/books.html. Orders normally ship within 24 hours.
From an Interested DCRRC Member: I came across a website that I thought you might want to let other members know about. USA Track and Field has a new tool on their website that allows you to map and measure running routes (using Google maps), then save them to a searchable database so that other people can view them. I've used it a couple times to plan local running routes, and it's very user friendly. I figure that more people using this tool and putting their routes into the database will be an advantage to us all, as I'd certainly be interested in finding new routes that others like.
