RRCA/Columbia Ten Miler

February 26, 8 am

Columbia, MD

http://www.striders.net/races/rrca/

This is the DC and MD RRCA club challenge race at ten miles. This is scored similar to a cross country race with at least the first 12 men and 3 women per club scoring for their team. If each club has more than the minimum number of finishers the scoring will then go deeper.  As you register just check the box or circle "DCRRC" for the club. Do not send in an entry fee, the club picks up the tab for this race. The link above will lead you to a PDF form you can print and send or you can wait until 2/1 and register online.  If you are interested in running, please email me your name, expected finishing time and tell me if you would like to carpool to Columbia.

Cherry Blossom Ten Mile

April 3, 8 am

Washington, DC

Cherry Blossom has team competitions in the following three categories: open male, open female, and mixed masters. Registration for this event has already closed. If you want to participate on a club team for this event please and are registered as an individual please email me by FEBRUARY 27th with your name, bib #, expected finishing time, and team category preference. (The club does not have the ability to enter runners in the race who are not already registered.)

Boston Marathon

April 19, Noon

Boston, MA

www.baa.org

For the Boston Marathon there are four team categories: female open, male open, female masters, and male masters. We can only enter one team per category but have unlimited spots on the team. Registration for this is open and will continue until the field size reaches 20,000.  If you want to be on a club team, please email me with your name and bib number, if available, once you register as an individual.  Please pass this information along to me by MARCH 30th.

Tom's Run / Coast Guard Relay

June 9&10

Cumberland to Bethesda, MD

This is a fun two-day relay event with roughly 30 legs that covers the length of the C&O Canal. The legs range in distance from 2.5 miles to just over 11.  The goal of this relay is to finish at exactly 11am on Saturday, June 10th. To achieve that goal a start time for the team is determined by trying to determine each runner’s pace and working backward. It is a logistical challenge that we have almost perfected. At this point, we are seeking people who have no commitments on June 9th (Friday) and would be able to go to Cumberland on June 8th to spend the night before starting out on the canal Friday morning as well as those who can go to join the fun midday on June 9th.  If you are interested in taking part in Tom's Run or want more information, please email me.

3.         SNOWBALL SERIES

The Snowball Series is a series of eight races, each of which counts toward series points. Points are awarded in 5-year age groups, beginning with 14 and under, and ending with 80 and over.

The rules are as follows:

1) Your age on the day of the first series race you run is your age for the entire series.

2) Points are awarded to the top twenty places in each age group. The first place runner in an age group receives 20 points, second place earns 19 points, etc.

3) You must be a DCRRC member on the day of the race to earn points for that race. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the victories in head-to-head competition. If there is still a tie, the time difference in those same head-to-head races will determine the winner.

4) One must run three races to qualify for an award. A runner's top five races will count in the total scoring for the series.

An awards ceremony is held in the spring and the top three finishers in each age group are presented an award.

There are FOUR races left in the 05-06 Snowball Series:

Saturday, February 4th at 10 a.m. Custis 12K, Bluemont Park, Arlington

5.         10K TRAINING PROGRAM STARTS ON FEBRUAY 18th

Once again, the DC Road Runners Club is partnering with the Arlington YMCA for a 10K training program.

The program will begin Saturday, February 18th and last twelve weeks, with the goal race being the Arlington YMCA Mother’s Day 10K, a race which DCRRC co-sponsors with the YMCA. (Program participants may choose to run other 10Ks, of course, but the program fee includes a free entry in the Mother’s Day 10K on Sunday, May 14, 2006.)

The cost for the 10K Training Program is $40 for DCRRC members (non-members pay $52, as their fee includes a DCRRC membership). Runners will meet at the Arlington YMCA on Saturday, February 18th at 8 a.m. for orientation.

Groups will be formed based on runners’ experience, abilities and goals. All levels of ability will be accommodated. Participants should come to the first meeting prepared to go for a short run. Runners will have access to the locker room facilities each week, including showers, towels and sauna. Bagels and Gatorade will be provided each week, as well as high quality coaching advice.

Here's the inside track on setting PRs: Whether you are attempting your first half-marathon, hoping to qualify for the Boston Marathon, or pursuing an Olympic Trials QT for 10,000 meters, our speed sessions will help you meet your running goals. To feel the burn--and have fun doing it--join us for our Wednesday night track workouts, starting at 7:15 p.m.  Personal training advice is available from the USA Track & Field-certified coach, as well as from the many other "regulars" who have experienced the highs and lows of training, injuries, and competition.  Novice runners are always given a workout suitable to their level of fitness. This is the best place in town to meet other committed runners dedicated to improving their level of performance.

Our weekly track workouts are held at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington
