Board of Directors meeting minutes
December 11, 2003

Attendees:
Board members: Susan Maher, Pat Brown, Ed Grant, George Getek, Sarah Clements, Ian Clements, Andy Buechele, Howell Posner, Debi Maguire

Also attending: Tom Lohrentz, Al Morris, Bob Platt, James Scarborough and Jay Wind.

Maher called the meeting to order at 7:20 p.m.

Meeting minutes: Aproved October and November meeting minutes.

Committees/Reports:

Treasurer: Getek distributed a report that showed total assets in excess of $43,000.

Membership: : Maguire reported that 23 new members have joined the club since September. She’s also created a volunteer database.

Training programs:
10K Training Program – Maher reported that Matt Pyle will lead the 2004 program, which will start in February. He is recruiting coaches.
Wed. night track workout – Continues successfully.
Saturday Long Run – Kerry O’Brien is the new leader.

Newsletter: The deadline for articles for the next issue is Jan. 1.

Education: Howell Posner reported that the committee is on hiatus for the summer.

Scholarship: Platt reported that he’s waiting for candidates to complete their paperwork.

Welcome Wagon: Posner submitted a written report to the board.

Past and future races

Past: Brown reported that the trail was mostly clear for the Belle Haven Half Marathon.

Future: The club needs volunteers for the Al Lewis 10 & 20 Milers in Kensington on Jan. 3.

Other Business:

Platt urged the board to reinstate him as race director for the Greenbelt 15K, but the board declined to take action on the matter.

Lohrentz, the club’s general counsel, and Morris described laws about defibrillators and outlined the benefits of having one available at club races. Articles about defibrillators were distributed to board members.

Wind asked the board to pass a resolution in support of a marathon in Arlington. The board declined.

Executive Session: The board conducted an executive session from 9 to 9:30 p.m.

Maher adjourned the meeting at 9:30 p.m. The next meeting was scheduled for Jan. 8, 2004.
