Committees/Reports:
Treasurer: George Getek, who was absent, submitted a report that
Maher read to the board, describing total assets in excess of $40K. Current
spending and income are in line with the budget.
Membership: Maher and Debi Maguire have been sending out email notices to those members whose memberships have expired, notifying them of this fact and telling them that they will be deleted from our database if they don’t renew and reminding them of the benefits of the club. Maher reported a reasonable level of success (member retention) as a result of this. Maguire continues to clean up the database.
Training programs:
Marathon Training Program – Continues successfully.
Wed. night track workout – Continues successfully.
Saturday Long Run – Continues successfully.
Newsletter: Latest issue was mailed out to members. A member has volunteered to serve as the editor, but Maher hasn’t yet met with him to discuss the job.
Education: Howell Posner reported that the committee is on hiatus for the summer.
Scholarship: Bob Platt reported that while he’s made efforts to recruit candidates, the timing is poor due to the fact that school is not in session. He will continue his efforts.
Welcome Wagon: On hiatus for summer.
Past and future races
Past:
The 2003 Bunion Derby ended with the Larry Noel Greenbelt 15K. On the whole,
participation was up from last year.
Upcoming races: Maher noted that we have re-established our relationship with START to co-sponsor the PA Avenue Mile and that the race will have a 5K/10K component this year. The race falls on the same weekend as our time and labor-intensive 20 Miler so board members were encouraged to plan on helping out as much as possible that weekend (Sept. 27th and 28th.)
Other Business:
The board voted to rename the Belle Haven 15K for Steve Thompson, longtime member and volunteer for DCRRC who passed away in the spring. The 2004 race schedule will reflect the change.
Platt, race director for one of the groups that proposes to put on the DC Marathon in March 2004, asked the board to pass a resolution in support of the marathon. The board declined.
Maher adjourned the meeting at 8:45. The next meeting was scheduled for Oct. 2.
