** CAUTION - Run this route with a buddy or in a group, and follow these directions. **

- Begin by crossing Memorial Bridge and go to Washington Monument.
- At 15th St., make your way over to Independence Ave.
- At 10th St., turn right off Independence into L'Enfant Plaza.
- Run to circle at end of L'Enfant Plaza then bear left down the path to Maine Ave.
- Cross Maine Ave. to waterfront behind restauraunts and turn left.
- Run for a mile along waterfront path to the Titanic scuplture (pic at right). Read sculpture.
- Turn left at Titanic sculpture, crossing in front of Fort McNair, and run east on P St SW..
- Go 1/2 mile to Douglass Bridge.
- Go under the bridge, make a left, and go to the sidewalk along the north-bound
lanes of bridge and make a u-turn to cross the bridge on the sidewalk across the
Anacostia River. As you go over the river, look back to your left to see the
planned site of the new Nationals baseball stadium.
- On the other side, run down the sidewalk and make a right onto Anacostia Drive (do not curl back under the bridge.) Run on this park road that goes northeast through Anacostia Park (pic at right) along the river.
- After 1 mile, pass under the green highway bridges.
- After another mile, take the near side of the blue bridge (Sousa Bridge) back across the river.
- This bridge is Pennsylvania Avenue which goes all the way back to the
Capitol. At 7th St, look to the right and up 7th to see Eastern Market,
the last remaining 19th century market in DC.
   (For a neighborhood detour, turn left off Penn onto G and right on 3rd St back to a left on Penn.)
- Return to Iwo Jima by way of Independence Ave or the Mall and then over Memorial Bridge.
