Please join us for the third Snowball Series race of the season.

Registration will start at 8 AM adjacent to the basketball courts on the left side of the parking lot.  Please be aware that we do not have access to the recreation center this year and everything will be done outdoors so plan and dress accordingly.  Temporary restrooms (port-o-pots) will be onsite for use.  You will need to go through registration to get your timing chip or to confirm the chip number you might already have from a previous DCRRC race.  The start line for the race this year is approximately 100 feet north of the basketball court on the Rock Creek Trail at the mile 7 marker.  The race will start at 9am.  Post race activities will be held on the basketball courts and the awards will be handed out between 10:45 and 11am.

Entry Fee: Free for DCRRC members; $5 for non-members who pre-register online.  $5 for DCRRC members, $10 for non-members on race day.

Refund policy for low key races: In the event the race is canceled, pre-paid non-members will receive a credit to be applied to a future low-key race.

Directions to the race: The race will be based from the Ken-Gar Palisades Park.  The address for the recreation center is 4140 Wexford Drive, Kensington, MD.  The address is a bit misleading since the entrance to the parking lot is off Beach Drive south of Wexford Drive.  From the Beltway, take Connecticut Avenue (MD 185) north ~1.5 miles to Knowles Avenue (MD 547).  Make a left onto Knowles and go ~0.6 mile to Beach Drive.  Go right onto Beach Drive and the entrance to the park parking lot will be on the right after ~.25 miles.  The parking lot is pretty small so unless you are one of the first ~30 people there you will need to find other parking nearby.  Nearby parking is available on Beach Drive, off of Wexford within the neighborhood there and continuing further up Beach Drive to the intersection with Garrett Park Road, make a right and the entrance to the parking lot for the small park there is on the left. Other information: The 10 miler is Snowball Series Race #3 and the club Championship Race for the 10 mile distance.

Distance and Course Description: The course is an out and back route utilizing the Rock Creek Trail from trail mile marker 7 to mile marker 2 and back.  An updated link to a course map: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5220941. The course is altered from previous years since it will not go up Old Spring Road to the turnaround (the big hill is not part of the course this year).  The entire course will be on a paved trail.  Assistance will be provided by police officers stopping vehicle traffic for the crossing of Knowles Avenue and Cedar Lane.  Other intersections will be marshaled by volunteers where we will have to yield to traffic - please be alert.  A waterstop will be located at the intersection of the trail and Old Springs Road (miles 4/6).  The miles will be marked either on the ground or by signs as well as the few turns.  Please familiarize yourself with the course map since the we have had a run of snow the past two years which plays havoc with the markings and signs.

Volunteers: Please contact Jay Wind if you are available to help out before or during the race. Volunteering during the race will fulfill the Snowball Series requirement.

Q: Will the course be marked? A: Yes, each mile will be marked as well as the turns on the course.

Q: Will the results be posted online? A: Yes, results will be posted by the end of the day Monday if not sooner.

Q: Is the course certified? A: No, but the course has been accurately measured and verified by the race director  - rest assured it is a full 10 miles.
