SLR December 23 - Christmas Tree Run

Hello Saturday Runners!

Unfortunately I forgot that last Saturday was also the wreath-laying at Arlington National Cemetery, so hopefully all of you managed to improvise a run while Jonny and I were stuck sitting in traffing trying to get to our meeting point... things should be back on track this week though. The route this week is our annual Christmas Tree Run (downloads: cue sheet and GPS), which is mapped at 10 miles but with a recommended distance of 12 miles for MTP trainees. To add the extra two miles, take a left at the Lincoln Memorial on your way back, and follow Ohio Drive down to the 14th St. Bridge before crossing over to VA and heading back via the Mt. Vernon Trail. If Christmas trees aren't your thing, and you'd rather decorate using a bare aluminum pole set onto a sturdy base, keep an eye out for next week's newly re-mapped GPS art edition of the Festivus Run!

Thank you Bonnie Harvey for post-run drinks! There are plenty of opportunities to help out with post-run drinks over the next few months, so take a look at your calendar and let me know what you can do. Volunteer needs along with the weekly route & distance schedule are always kept up-to-date on the SLR web page, and you can email me any time to schedule your slot. For more details on how volunteering works, please see the SLR FAQ, or get in touch with me if your questions are not addressed there.

The next upcoming club race (free for members) is the Predictions and Resolutions 5K, which will be held at Washington-Lee HS on New Year's Day at a post-party-friendly time of noon. Registration for the George Washington's Birthday Marathon on February 18 is now open as well, with $50 early-bird pricing now in effect before January 1.

Nominations for 2017 club awards (presented at the Club Banquet in March 2018) will be accepted until January 7, 2018. You may submit multiple nominations, for the same or different awards. Self-nominations are allowed. Think back on all of the great accomplishmets within the club this year, and help your training buddies get recognized!

Happy running,

Mike
